Enrolment practices for MOOCs vary by course.
In most cases you begin your studies in the online learning environment of the course. The necessary information is available on the course page of each MOOC.
You can participate in a MOOC free of charge. If you want to receive credits for the MOOC that you have completed, you will be asked to pay a fee at the end of the course. Some of the University of Helsinki’s MOOCs are completely free of charge. Information about the course fee is available on the relevant course page.

The open university courses are free of charge for people who have fled Ukraine because of the war and are receiving temporary protection. The enrolment is free of charge until 4.3.2025. Some open university courses are freely available to all or specific groups of students.
The maximum price of tuition fees for open university education is set by decree. On 25 April 2024, the Finnish Government decided that the maximum tuition fee will increase from the current €15 per credit to €45. Higher education institutions will decide on their own tuition fees within the limits set by the regulation.
The University of Helsinki is currently working carefully on this issue. The starting point is that any higher prices will only be used on specific grounds. Among other things, the aim is to keep the price of basic studies unchanged. More information will be available during the spring.
