Study modules and courses

  • Individual course 10 € /credit
  • Study module 250–440 €

Paying the fee gives you the right to participate in the studies and examinations specified in the study programme. If the study module includes optional studies, the fee for the module will only cover courses corresponding to the minimum number of credits required for the module. An additional fee will be charged for courses exceeding this number.

The right to study granted for the duration of the studies entitles the student to complete certain University degree studies within a set time frame.

Fees are specified in the study programmes.

Examinations

The right to study normally includes one examination and one retake (courses less than 5 credits in scope) or one examination and two retakes (courses more than 5 credits in scope). Charges for additional examinations will be determined according to the amount of credits accrued from the course.

The study fee includes examination questions in Finnish or Swedish. If the language of instruction is other than Finnish or Swedish, the fee includes examination questions in that language as well. Students must pay a fee to receive examination questions in another language (EUR 30 per examination).
More information

If a student at the Open University wishes to participate in an examination on the date specified in the study programme at location other than that approved by the Open University, the Open University will charge an additional fee of EUR 30. In addition, the student must arrange in advance to have the location approved by the Open University, and must cover any expenses related to making the facility suitable for taking the examination.

University of Helsinki examinations which are not part of a University of Helsinki Open University study programme will not be organised. The invigilation charge for examinations from other institutions (so-called transfer examinations) is EUR 50 per examination.

The course fee covers supplementation of a failed assignment, but if the student wishes to retake the whole assignment, the course fee must be paid again.

Grounds for fees and terms of registration and payment

The fees at the Open University are based on a decree from the Finnish Government. Decisions on fees at the Open University have been made by the Board of the Open University (The right to appeal fees).

To begin studies at the Open University, the student must have paid the fees for the preceding academic year in full.
